Small-leaved Lime – up to 1,000 years old, bee paradise & medicinal plant

The small-leaved lime (Tilia cordata) is one of Europe's most resilient tree species: it can live up to 1,000 years, grow over 20 meters tall, and is native even to the Alps – thanks to its exceptional winter hardiness and heat tolerance. Its heart-shaped leaves give it the nickname "heart-leaved lime," and its fragrant blossoms are one of the most valuable pollen and nectar sources for bees.

In traditional medicine, lime blossoms have been used for centuries to relieve coughs and as a sudorific. Its soft wood is ideal for intricate carvings and turned work.
