Turkish Fir – Climate-Resilient Survivor from the Pontic Mountains

The Turkish Fir (Abies bornmuelleriana) is one of the most resilient fir species in the world: it endures extreme heatwaves just as stoically as severe frost periods – a characteristic that makes it the subject of extensive scientific climate research. No other tree of its genus combines heat and frost resistance so distinctly.

Originating from the Pontic Mountains in northwestern Turkey, it thrives in pure stands at high altitudes and mixes with other fir species at lower elevations. Closely related to the Nordmann Fir, but significantly more robust – ideal for climate change.
