Littleleaf Linden Tree Planting Kit (Tilia cordata) by Meinwoody

The littleleaf linden tree can live for up to 1,000 years, grows over 30 meters tall, and is native even to the Alps – thanks to its exceptional winter hardiness and heat tolerance. Its fragrant blossoms are one of the most valuable sources of pollen and nectar for bees. And in traditional medicine, linden blossoms have been used for centuries to relieve coughs. With this kit, you can plant your own: Open, press in the seeds, water. Done.

What's included

  • Plastic-free plant pot made from hemp fiber composite – 100% compostable
  • Approx. 150 ml Terra Preta soil

Interesting facts about the Littleleaf Linden

The littleleaf linden (Tilia cordata), also known as small-leaved lime or heart-leaved lime, is one of Europe's most resilient tree species.

  • Growth height: over 30 meters, life expectancy up to 1,000 years
  • Winter hardy up to the Alps – extremely robust & heat tolerant
  • Excellent pollen & nectar source – valuable bee paradise
  • Blossoms as tea: used for centuries against coughs & as a diaphoretic
  • Wood: soft & fine – ideal for carvings & turnery
  • Where littleleaf and large-leaved lindens meet, they naturally hybridize

How it works

Press the seeds into the soil, water – and let them grow. After cultivation, you can plant the seedling directly with the compostable pot into the ground or a larger container. The pot decomposes without residue within 12–24 months. Your plant roots freely and undisturbed.

Germinating Tree Seeds

1. Place about 5 tree seeds in the freezer for 24 hours, then in lukewarm water for 24 hours to soften. Please note: do not apply this step for Moringa. Moringa cannot tolerate frost.

2. Place WOODY on a saucer. Press the softened seeds 1-2 cm deep into the soil. Then water until the soil is nicely moist.

3. Place WOODY in a bright spot. Keep the soil moist until the seeds germinate. Germination can take about four to twelve weeks.

4. Plant your tree when it is more than twice as tall as the pot is wide. Place the tree, including the compostable pot, into the soil.

* A saucer is not included in the delivery.
