The spicebush is one of the most sensual plants for gardens and pots: decorative, winter-hardy down to -20°C, and growing up to 3 meters tall over the years. With this set, you can plant it yourself: open, press in seeds, water. Done.

Interesting facts about the Spicebush

The spicebush (Calycanthus floridus) originates from North America and is enjoying increasing popularity in German gardens – thanks to its unique fragrance and robustness.

  • Flowers: bright red, up to 5 cm in size, scent of cloves & strawberries
  • Bark: pleasant clove scent all year round
  • Winter-hardy down to -20°C – protect with fleece in the first year
  • Growth height: up to 3 meters
  • Location: sunny to semi-shady – needs light for full bloom
  • Ideal as an ornamental plant in beds, pots & as a solitary shrub

How it works

Press seeds into the soil, water – and let them grow. After cultivation, you can plant the shrub directly with the compostable pot into the ground or a larger container. The pot decomposes without residue within 12–24 months. Your plant will root freely and undisturbed.

Germinating Tree Seeds

1. Place about 5 tree seeds in the freezer for 24 hours, then in lukewarm water for 24 hours to soften. Please note: do not apply this step for Moringa. Moringa cannot tolerate frost.

2. Place WOODY on a saucer. Press the softened seeds 1-2 cm deep into the soil. Then water until the soil is nicely moist.

3. Place WOODY in a bright spot. Keep the soil moist until the seeds germinate. Germination can take about four to twelve weeks.

4. Plant your tree when it is more than twice as tall as the pot is wide. Place the tree, including the compostable pot, into the soil.

* A saucer is not included in the delivery.
